About Tanjung Dispatch

Tanjung Dispatch runs a small daily desk out of Johor Bahru, filing short reports on the paperwork behind council votes, appointments and public contracts in the south.

Who runs the desk

Tanjung Dispatch answers to no government office, statutory body, political party or company mentioned in its coverage — it is not affiliated with, and takes no funding from, any of them.

The desk is small on purpose: a handful of reporters, each carrying their own beat, filing directly rather than through layers of editing that would slow a same-day story down.

What counts as a story here

A story starts with a document that has landed on a public record — a notice, a minute, a schedule, an order — and stays close to that document rather than ranging beyond it. If the document does not answer a question, the report says so instead of guessing.

We skip stories that cannot be tied to a specific record. A rumour without a document behind it does not run, no matter how it is sourced.

Sourcing

Every quote in a report carries a name and a stated role. We do not print an unnamed quote, and we do not print a claim we cannot attach to a document or a named person willing to stand behind it.

Where a document was obtained only after a written request, rather than found on a public notice board, the report says which route it came from.

One important note

Every case, company, council, corporation and named person in our reporting is composite and illustrative, assembled to show a pattern in how records can pull in different directions rather than to describe one real dispute or one real person. Any resemblance to an actual case is coincidental, and this is composite reporting throughout.

When a report names a real public body only to describe that body's published mandate or procedure, it is doing exactly that and nothing more — never reporting an action inside the composite scenario the piece is built around.

Getting something wrong

If a report has an error, we fix it on the piece itself and log the date of the fix at the bottom. We do not quietly rewrite something that has already run.
