Terms

The terms below cover how our reporting may be used and what it does and does not stand for.

Reading and sharing our reports

You may read, link to and quote a report for non-commercial or editorial use, provided you credit Tanjung Dispatch. Republishing a report as though it were your own work, or changing its substance while keeping our name attached, is not allowed.

What a report represents

A report reflects our reading of the specific documents named in it, at the time it was filed. Where later checking shows an error, the piece is corrected on the page and the correction is dated.

On the cases we describe

As set out on the about page, the councils, corporations, authorities and named individuals appearing in our reporting are composite and illustrative, built to show a pattern rather than to describe one real matter. Any similarity to an actual case is coincidental.

Hero images

Each report carries an illustrative image, unrelated to the specific matter it describes. The photographer and licence are named in the caption; using an image for anything past reading it here means following that licence.

Not a stand-in for professional advice

What runs here is general reporting on public records, and on how a reader might approach them, offered for interest and scrutiny rather than as a recommendation for your own circumstances. Where a decision of yours turns on the matters we cover, get advice from a suitably qualified person directly rather than relying on a report on this site.

Outside links

A link in a report points to a document or registry that backed a specific claim when we published it. We are not responsible for an outside site's content, which can change after we linked to it.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms occasionally. Whatever is posted here is the version currently in force, and staying on the site after a revision counts as accepting it.
